A SIM Card
A smart card or chip as some persons refer to it as, carries an identification number unique to the owner, storing personal data like text messages and contacts, and preventing operation if removed.
It is regularly placed inside the device, normally situated near the battery or beneath it, and on some devices, there would be a sim slot situated to the side of the device. Refer to the manufacturer manual to locate where it is on your device. For more information on inserting sim card, click here.
Cost of SIM card
Sim cards can be purchased at Digicel retail stores. A new sim card costs $2500.00.
SIM Card Security
Our SIM cards are issued with two strengths of security to help prevent unauthorized access to your device and information stored on your sim card itself.
All SIM cards are protected with a PIN number. The PIN (Personal Identification Number) is provided to you when you purchase the sim card. Standard PIN codes are 4 digits in length. If you forget your PIN, or enter the pin incorrectly 3 times, then the second security measure known as the PUK code is enabled. The PIN and PUK codes can be found on the SIM card packet that is provided to you when the sim was purchased. There is a PUK 1 and PUK 2 code to help with securing your SIM pin. You can use it to unlock a blocked SIM pin.
How to access SIM PIN & PUK
Turn to the back of your sim card holder. Your PIN & PUK will be displayed as shown below.
SIM Types
Phones vary in size and shape and therefore house different SIM card types. Was your SIM card stolen or misplaced? A SIM replacement can be done so your phone number can be transferred to a new sim card. Visit one of our dealer stores with your SIM card holder or the PUK code or the Identification Card used to purchase you sim to get your number back. Any text messages or contacts that were saved on the sim card cannot be replaced.
Can't Access SIM card
You may not be able to access your sim for many reasons:
- Your phone may be network locked. If your phone was purchased from another network provider, you may need to check with that provider to get it unlocked.
- Sim may be inactive/expired. Dial *124# to check your air time. Be sure to Top Up at least once per month to increase your air time and keep your account active.
- If your sim is PUK/SIM blocked (PUK1 entered 10 times incorrectly), a sim replacement will be required.
